A good way to promote and market your book is through blogging. The only problem is in doing so you need to have some way to first promote your blog. In the same sense you can promote your book through your blog, but you must have a way to first promote the blog, or no one will know that your Web site and your book even exist.

Before you can use your blog to help sell your book, people must be aware of your blogs address. It’s similar to the old chicken and egg analogy. This means that you must heavily advertise your blog site in order to be effective at selling your book. Some people put their blog as part of their regular Web site, while others have it as an independent blog site.

Getting Publicity for Your Book

Whether your blog is independent, or a part of your regular Web site, you need to find creative ways to promote and market your blog site. In addition to blogging on a regular basis, it would be good to have a business card with your blog site listed on it. In fact, put your blog address on everything you send out. These business cards should be passed out at every available opportunity. You should be sure your blog site is listed on all the major search engines. Let your friends, family, relatives, and others know your blog’s address. Wherever you make an appearance don’t fail to mention your blog site or Web site, or hand out something with your blog site listed on it.

Once you begin to promote your blog’s address, you can then market your book in any way you want. On your blog you should mention your book each time by saying a few words about your book, and also you can mention your book at the bottom of the blog. You might say, “I have written such and such book, and it deals with so and so; the title is thus and thus, the ISBN number, publisher’s address, and price is such and such. You might also incorporate your plug for your book in the body of the blog by saying, “My book relates to this particular subject, and can be ordered from the publisher at the address below.

Your blog should support and be related to the basic ideas in your book. You might even include an excerpt from your book into your blog. You blog site or Web site should have an easy to remember address rather than something complicated. If you have a blog site separate from your Web site, you should have a direct link from your blog site to your Web site. This is taking for granted that your book is listed on your Web site, and it should be.

The blog is not magic, but if you use it in conjunction with other marketing approaches, it will serve you well. You must remember that the blog must be vigorously marketed along with your book, in order to have it promote your book. The more people who know your blog address and what is associated with it, the more potential customers for your book. The same as with your Web site, you must have a way to drive people to your blog site, or people won’t be aware of its existence.
